Your Car Rental Check List Before You Travel
Required Documents
Credit card
Acceptable: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club
Not Allowed: Pre-paid credit cards, Debit cards, Maestro or Switch cards
Make sure that your limit is sufficient to cover the excess amount.
In cases when you cannot show up with a valid credit card or perhaps insufficient money available on card account, the car rental station will probably refuse to handout the vehicle. In these situations, no funds or vouchers paid will be refunded.
Form(s) of Identification
An appropriate photo ID (National ID or Passport) will be necessary.
For the car rental hire you will also need two forms of proof of address which is the same as on your driver’s license:
One must be a credit card or bank account statement for the credit card shown at the car rental desk.
The second has to be a service bill (electric, gas, water use bill etc.). Cellphone expenditures or council tax payments will never be accepted.
The two docs should be dated within 8 weeks of your car hire. You will need to pass a safety verification check by car hire agent.
Drivers License
A full license held for minimum of 1 year (some rental companies request 2 years and for premium cars maybe longer) with no major endorsements. UK licenses holders need to present the photocard and the paper counterpart.
If your license is not in Roman alphabet (i.e. Arabic, Greek, Russian or Chinese) you need to bring an International Driver license and your domestic license. If you’re renting abroad International drivers license is usually required regardless of the alphabet. International driver's license must be accompanied by the original domestic license of the driver. Please we aware if you show up at the car rental desk with your International Driver's License only then you didn't get any car.
We strongly recommend that you purchase an International Drivers License. This is only a translation of your local driver's license into some 12 to 20 different languages. It's not expensive because you can get this for some $ 15,- to $ 25,-. Most of the AAA (or other automobile club) offices should offer the IDL also.
Voucher
A printed version of your voucher has to be provided on arrival at the rental station. So don't forget to print this voucher when you get the car rental confirmation!
Failure to supply the voucher means the car rental agent can potentially charge you at the local - mostly much higher - rates.
Please be aware: We will be not liable for overcharges on rentals when the voucher was not shown to the local car hire agent when picking up the car.
If you fail to present the needed papers, the documents are not valid or perhaps you do not have as much as necessary money on your credit card account, the car rental station may decline to hand out the auto and no funds will be refunded.
It will be good to have a copy of your confirmation as well with you.
Overtime
Please note that nearly all car rental companies meanwhile don't allow any overtime anymore. A car rental day is a 24 hour day and when you for example pick up a car at 10:00h and drop the car at 10:25h they mostly will charge another FULL CAR RENTAL DAY (!) at their rack rates. So calculate at time of your booking when you want to drop off your car.
